He has one of the most extensive experiences in laparoscopic “keyhole” bowel surgery in Cambridge and is involved in training the surgeons of tomorrow, running international courses and mentoring consultant colleagues. He was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal, Laparoscopic and General Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 2012 following prestigious specialist training in the world-renowned St Marks and Royal Brisbane Hospitals. He is the Lead for Colorectal Pelvic Floor at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and Lead for Undergraduate Colorectal teaching at the University of Cambridge Medical School.
Michael Powar provides dedicated specialist clinics at both the Nuffield and Spire Hospitals offering a comprehensive service covering a wide range of bowel and anal conditions. His general surgical practice is intentionally limited to abdominal and groin hernias. He undertakes modern pioneering techniques to treat patients with bowel function difficulties including laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy and sacral nerve stimulation. To-date, he is the first and only clinician to perform sacral nerve stimulation for patients with faecal incontinence in the East of England and provides a regional service for this.
